The Network is a coalition of organizations working to support HIV vaccine research among populations most impacted by HIV through community education and information dissemination.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the NIH, has opened enrollment in HVTN 505, an exploratory HIV vaccine clinical study examining whether a two-part vaccine regimen can decrease viral load (the amount of HIV in the blood) in study participants who later become infected with HIV.

Scientists are hailing the results of a large-scale vaccine trial in Thailand as an important advance in the fight to prevent HIV. The Phase III study found that individuals who received the combination of two investigational HIV vaccines were 31.2 percent less likely to contract HIV than those volunteers who received a placebo (“sham”) injection.
