HIV Vaccine Research: Overview of NHVREI and its Network

Organizations that are committed to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States are invited to apply to become a part of the NHVREI Network. The Network is a coalition of organizations working to support HIV vaccine research among populations most impacted by HIV through community education and information dissemination.

HVTN 505 HIV Vaccine Study Begins Enrolling Volunteers

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the NIH, has opened enrollment in HVTN 505, an exploratory HIV vaccine clinical study examining whether a two-part vaccine regimen can decrease viral load (the amount of HIV in the blood) in study participants who later become infected with HIV.

Thai HIV Vaccine Trial Results

Scientists are hailing the results of a large-scale vaccine trial in Thailand as an important advance in the fight to prevent HIV. The Phase III study found that individuals who received the combination of two investigational HIV vaccines were 31.2 percent less likely to contract HIV than those volunteers who received a placebo (“sham”) injection.
